Sample Sunday: One Heck of a Proposition.

Hey there!

Finally, I can share the first sample of Vows Fulfilled. In case you didn’t read my last blog post, I had a cover reveal for the title last Friday. It’s now available for preorder and will release God willing on September 29th.

Now let’s get down to this sample. Enjoy!

They stood face to face, the tension between them palpable. A smile tugged at the corners of Hamza’s mouth. She glanced away to break his gaze. He leaned close enough that she could feel his body heat radiating against her skin as he whispered in her ear.
“I couldn’t help but notice how stunning you look today.”
His words sent a shiver down her spine, and her cheeks flushed from a surge of nervousness. He stepped back, hands still in his pockets, and cocked his head to one side while raising an eyebrow.
“Umm… thank you,” she stammered.
“Relax, Salma. I’m not going to bite… unless you want me to.”
Salma took a deep breath and said firmly, “We’ve talked about this, Mr. Alami.”
He smiled again, eyes crinkling up at the corners. “I see we’re back to that?”
She swallowed hard. “What?”
His grin widened, “Formal titles…”

“Yes, when it’s seems like you didn’t get the message.” She glanced at her slim gold watch, took in a sharp breath of air, and set her jaw. With an appointment looming, she didn’t have time to deal with people who had difficulty understanding how she felt. In two strides, she was at the door and about to reach for the handle.
“My beautiful Salma, I did hear you. But then I thought about it, and I do not agree.”
His words stopped her hand mid-reach and brought her icy gaze back to him. “What?”
“I think it is fear holding you back.”
She clenched her jaw and closed her eyes briefly before turning slowly back toward him. “Oh really?”
He shrugged his broad shoulders. “Yes, you claim to have this thing you need to get settle, but—”
“Claim?” Despite her attempts to remain calm, heat rushed up her neck as anger began to simmer within her chest. “People say they want the truth, when you give it to them, they find a way to make it be a lie to satisfy the story in their head.” There was so much more that needed to be said, but this was her place of business, and she had an appointment looming nearer with each passing second. Everything that had drawn her so strongly towards him before suddenly became lackluster in comparison to his present attitude.
He held out his hands in a sign of surrender. “I didn’t mean to offend you. I’m pointing out that we work well together, and we get along great too—”
Shaking her head, Salma conceded despite herself. “We do and I’d like to continue…the work part that is. It was wrong of me to agree to go out with you in the first place.”
“No, it wasn’t. Whoever this man is, I’m sure I can give you everything he never could.” In a swift motion, Hamza took her hand. “He was a fool to let you go.”
“Wow, Star, that’s one heck of a proposition.”
Salma’s breath caught in her throat as the familiar velvet timbre of his voice washed against her skin. She slowly turned to find Qasim Adesina leaning against the doorframe, a picture of nonchalance.
“And who are you?” Hamza asked.
“Oh, forgive her. The name is Qasim aka fool.”

I hope you enjoyed the sample. These two are something else. Unique in their own way.

Dont forget to preorder your copy here.

Till next time, peace and blessings

  1. Hi Unoma, I loved it! Pre-ordered and looking forward to reading.  Have you looked into having your books available through Hoopla? I would love to hear the audio of these African stories.

    1. Hi Letha, thanks you so much! Yes, I looked into it but it’s a long approval process. MY books are in queue. I’m working on something else for audio. Thanks for stopping by.
