Come in….
Part of my sauce is taking you on a journey to Africa. Real countries on the continent to learn of their culture, food, language, music and so much more.
I love getting reviews that say, “Unoma makes me want to pack my bags and visit xyz” referencing whichever country the book is set in. That to me means I’ve accomplished one of my primary aims as a writer who spotlights Africa. I’ve taken readers to cities in Kenya, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Rwanda, Tunisia, South Africa and of course, my home country, Nigeria.
In 2019, I executed my creative license and introduced my first fictional town, Tweede Kans Cove. Although Tweedes doesn’t exist, the town was inspired by Ifrane in Morrocco, and it is the home of the super wealthy DuBois-Arazis.
As the UN Universe expands, I’ve introduced another fictional place. Luxe Noir Township is located in southeast United States, Charleston, SC. It’s inspired by a couple of islands and towns but mainly the Black American elite way of life. Founded on Black sweat and dollars, Luxe Noir Township debuts in June 2023.
