Rae sat in the passenger seat of the car; her gaze fixed on the dark road ahead. She tossed a handful of Skittles into her mouth.
“Or do you want some Starburst instead?”
She offered Levi some candy after he declined the Skittles earlier. He glanced at her and shook his head, the same way he did when he picked her up and saw all the snacks and drinks, she had packed for their stakeout. She wasn’t sure how long they would be there, but she didn’t want to go hungry. As much as she wanted to help with their case, she also wanted a chance to talk to him without him shutting her down or walking away.
Glancing at her, he scoffed. “You know this isn’t an episode of that show you guys’ watch…Love Island.
“You say ‘you guys’ but how do you know the name?”
“You’ve had it on your phone every time I’ve seen you.”
“Not every time, but I’m flattered Detective. You’ve been keeping a close eye on me.”
“How else will I keep my enemies close…”
Rae caught the smirk he tried to hide. They had been parked outside this warehouse for over an hour now, and she felt like this was the right time to bring up their complicated past.

Game of Two Halves

Preorder Game of Two Halves

Blinded by rage, I entered the section and stalked towards Yinka. Her eyes widened in surprise as she saw me approaching.
“Really? So, this is what we on?” I growled; my voice laced with anger.
She stumbled back, caught off guard by my sudden appearance. The man she was with did himself a favor and stepped back. Whether it was because he knew who I was or he could tell he didn’t want these kinds of problems, I wasn’t sure which.
Sensing my mood, she cleared her throat. “What are you doing here? The last time I checked we weren’t on anything.”
I thumped my nose. “Oh, is that why you’re out here being reckless?”
“I’m here with my friend and I’m fine,” she slurred, her speech affected from whatever she’d been drinking.
Her eyes were filled with guilt and regret, but that wasn’t enough to quell the fire burning inside me. Looking around for the first time and I noticed the setup of the section was for a birthday party and the theme seemed to be pink and black. I took the drink from her hand.
“Did you notice that your drink is cloudy? Where’s your friend anyway?”
She frowned as the gravity of what I said sunk in. “She…she went to see some of our other friends, off.”
“Get your stuff, we’re leaving too.”
She opened her mouth to speak, but I didn’t give her a chance. I grabbed her arm and pulled her aside.
“I’m not leaving you here alone when you’re clearly not yourself,” I said firmly, lowering my voice but not the intensity behind my words. “If you fight me, I’ll show my entire Naija behind. I’m used to the attention, you’re not.”
