Christmas In July: I’ve Decided To Feed You

Hey there!

Can you believe we’re on the other side of the year? I seem to always say that don’t I? Times does fly and we’re in July so I’m going to be starting a #ChristmasInJuly series. I have only two actual Christmas books but I have Christmas scenes scattered all over my books. It seems I’m partial to the month, we’ll maybe it’s because it’s my birthday month.

The first book we’ll be visiting is my first book baby. This scene takes place in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Ma, calm down. It’s not that serious.” It was Christmas morning and Alex was on his way to pick up Feranmi. They had solidified their plans to go to the Food Bank. On his way, he decided to call his mother.
“If some young lady has you going to do charity work on Christmas morning, then it is serious,” his mother said. “I want to meet this girl, baby.”
“Okay, Ma, you will, but don’t go planning any weddings. It’s not even like that now,” Alex said. “I’ll talk to you later or tomorrow. Please don’t work too hard at the soup kitchen. Love you.” Every holiday his mother and some of the other ladies from church volunteered at different causes.
“Love you, too, baby. And I won’t.

Dressed in faded jeans and a hooded sweat-shirt. Alex turned his car into Feranmi’s subdivision. The sun was in full blast and the air was cool and crisp. Car parked, he glanced at the mini shopping bag seated on the passenger seat. He hoped she liked it. It was a birth stone sterling silver necklace and bracelet set. He had it inscribed with the letter ‘F’. Snatching up the gift, he zipped up his jacket and got out of the car. She opened the door on the first ring of the doorbell.
“Merry Christmas, gorgeous!” He kissed her on the cheek and stepped into the house. She was dressed as casual as he was in a pair of jeans and a sweat shirt. It was appropriate since they were going to work. The aroma coming from the kitchen reminded him of home. He smiled. Feranmi was quite the cook.
“It smells good in here.”
“Merry Christmas. Yeah, I cooked. Is that for me?” she said, pointing to the gift in his hand and walking back to the kitchen to rinse the mug she had in her hand.
“Yes, my lady,” he said. He followed her, but stopped at the entrance to the kitchen. She walked up to him and he handed her the bag.
“Why, thank you, kind sir.” Feranmi peeked inside the bag.
“Yours is under the tree.” She walked to the tree and placed the gift under it. He looked on in admiration.

“You’re not going to open it now?”
“No, why don’t we open our gifts together when we get back?”
“Back?” This was working out better than if he had planned it himself.
“Yeah. What kind of person would I be if I just use you and discard you? I’ve decided to feed you.” She smiled at him. He had no words for the effect her smile had on him.
“Oh, really now? That’s what I’m talking about. I knew you wouldn’t let me go home to a turkey sandwich.”
“I should keep a pin next to me at all times when I’m with you.”
“Why?”
“To deflate your ego.”
“It’s not ego baby, it’s confidence; confidence that’s all.” He winked, took her hand in his, and led her to his car.

  1. OM goodness I thought I read and reviewed this title but I checked my Unoma file and I don’t have a review and I’m not remembering the characters? Could I be so forgetful or did I not read it? What ever the case I’ll be picking it up as a refresher or a new title to me.
So thankful for Christmas in July
