Hey there! Happy Sunday, it’s promo time. I’m making great progress with the last book in the Away to Africa series, A Suitable Wife. Today I’ll share the first sample.
Handing my phone over, I instructed her to put her address in my GPS. Looking back, I saw Uju was slumped in slumber. Her headphones were still on her ears. Adjusting her neck, but leaving her headphones on, I caressed her face before settling down in my seat.
“Do you need to stop to get something to eat?”
With annoyance on her face, Zola ignored me and tapped away on her phone with a ferocity and speed that seemed impossible. Her face contorted into scowls as she sent her messages, alternately hissing and rolling her eyes in agitation.
“Is this phone gonna be a problem between us?” I glanced at her just in time so see her raise her brow and tighten her nose in disdain. “Who is that anyway?”
“There’s no us and mind your business,” she snapped.
I suppressed a smirk. “For the next several minutes, you are my business. So, again do we need to stop and get you something to eat?”
Her eyes widened in anger. “I’m fine Mr. Kalu. You insisted on kidnapping me, so take me home already.” Her words were filled with contempt, her mistrust in me evident.
I clenched my jaw and tightened my fist around the steering wheel. “It’s Jidenna.” I messed up so her anger was warranted but it didn’t make it any easier for me to take.
“Since I don’t know anything about you except that you’re my student’s father, the formality is necessary.”
Her words cut into me, and though they were accurate, they still stung.
