You Prayed But Are You Ready?

steveI rarely watch television. Not that I don’t want to but I rarely have the time or patience to devote to a program excluding Scandal of course. That is the one television goodness I allow myself. My hubby considers me an addict. But hey an addict for Olitz is alright by me.

Anyway, in April and May I was recuperating at home so I was on an extended leave from work. I watched a lot of tv, some of the programs I saw, I didn’t even know existed. What I loved watching the most was Racheal Ray, Steve Harvey and Ellen DeGeneres. It worked out perfectly too, because they were at 2,3 and 4 pm then the kids would get home. One thing these stars did well was making others laugh, and feel good. Then you know there’s always the segment where they give away stuff and it makes the recipient’s life a little better. I loved hearing those deserving stories.

In one particular episode, an 18 year old boy wrote into the Steve Harvey Show, he talked about the difficulties he had experienced since losing his father. He said he didn’t know how to be a man, didn’t have an apartment, couldn’t tie a tie and so on and so forth. For lack of a better word I will call it “whining” (don’t crucify me here…stay with me I’m going somewhere with this)

So he gets on the show and Steve does everything he asked for, dressing allowance, job interviews lined up, got him an apartment and paid his first and last month’s rent, and got him a mentor. Essentially everything he had asked for and more. He smiled until Steve Harvey said “don’t mess this up.” His whole demeanor changed.

scaredI expected to see a person who was so grateful that he would get up out of his seat shouting and thanking Steve Harvey for what I considered a generous gesture….instead I saw an 18 year old literally shaking in fear. He looked so stunned  like he would have a heart attack. I became somewhat mad. You whined, the man came through with more and you are just moping. I thought. Did he just expect to complain and not get an answer? Wasn’t he prepared to receive what he asked for? Why whine about it if you don’t want to do anything about it?

Sometimes, we whine and complain to God. “Woe is me, woe is me…give me this, give me that. Please, so so and so has this and if I just can have it my life would be great….” But do you know what hard work came with what they have? Are you prepared to receive what you ask for? It’s not about asking but you have to be prepared and faithful.

I love the Devon Franklin quote: “ Anything you pray for, you need to prepare for.” But remember now, when you get it, know that the devil will be busy so you have to stay prayed up and diligent. Mary Englebreit’s quote comes to mind here, “When you pray for rain, be prepared to deal with the mud.”

Are you prepared for what you are praying for?

By the way, today marks my one year anniversary as a published author. I’m grateful to each and every one of you that subscribe to this blog , like, comment or share. Without you, this dream of mine would just be like any other.

Blessings,
