2015 My Writing

goals

Did you make or write any resolutions down? You know those promises we make to ourselves that become a distant memory by the time February rolls around. LOL. I never did resolutions, truth be told I never even did goals until I became intentional about walking in my purpose. But now that I think of it, why do we put our hope in a failed system (resolutions).

Writing is my passion, my books are my platform and my purpose is to spread the good news of salvation through Christ Jesus. For those of you who are not familiar with my books or writings, a common theme that flows through them is hope, grace, reconciliation and surrender to His will.

So in order to make sure I am doing what I’ve been called to do I have to set goals, actions that would be the road map to a pre-determined end. That end is to hear Him say “Well done.” In reading In Pursuit of Purpose by the late Dr. Myles Munroe…I’ve been enlightened that goals should “create your priorities, determine your decisions, dictate companions and predict your choices” So everything I do should be centered around my purpose and mission.

I’m not a vision board kinda girl…well maybe I’d be if I had the patience to cut out pictures and stuff. I’m more like a writing the vision down kinda girl. I strongly believe in Habukkuk 2:2…write the vision down, make it plain…so I always write down my goals in writing and other areas of my life.

I’ll share the writing goals but for good measure I’ll also share some other aspects of your life where goals are important.

1. Spiritual Goals

2. Personal Goals( About YOU)

3. Family Goals

4. Business Goals( Writing for me)

This is what I plan to do but I firmly stand on Proverbs 16:9 “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.”

1. Publish A Scoop of Love (Book 1 Sons of Ishmael)

2. Write Anchored By Love( Book 2 Sons of Ishmael)

3. Write Unamed novella

4. Begin work on a collaboration project.

In everything I do, my prayer is that there is less of me and more of Him because to Him belongs all GLORY!!!

Share what you have planned this year?

Blessing

If She Can, Why Can’t I?…

beyonce-weave-funLet me start off by saying I’m not a huge fan. I do however, respect her as a human being, mother and artiste doing what she loves.

Anyways, as is my routine every morning, I logged into the internet to see what was going on. Headline: “Beyonce’s hair gets stuck in a fan”. I didn’t open the link to watch the video or read the full article. But my initial thoughts were, “Heeya that’s too bad.”

You see for Nigerians  “heeya”(pronounced hey-ya) can have numerous meanings, depending on how it is said.  It’s supposed to be a phrase for sympathy but can also be used for indifference or just for something to say. My “heeya” meant, ” Hope she is alright. Next…”  I was indifferent. (I’m being honest here. #dontjudgeme)….. but I digress. Then my next thought was, “Chei! she must have had to stop the show, to deal with her snafu.”  There was no way, she would have continued after that. She could have seriously been hurt, so she just had to stop the show.

But then by mid- day people in the office started talking about her. One of her huge fans was like “That’s Queen B, she didn’t even stop singing for a second.”  I was in disbelief so I challenged her.She said, “I’m gonna send you the link.” So with my tail between my leg, I walked back to my desk and opened the link that had arrived before I did. Lo’ and behold the full article explained how she kept singing while she used one hand to try to free herself ’til security came along.  I was like OMG!!!

Why did I say that? Singing is what she loves to do. It’s her job, her life, she been doing it forever. It gives her a sense of fulfillment. We Christians label it passion/purpose.  Follow me here…

When she was singing (pursuing her purpose)  that fan ( mountain, obstacle, nay-sayers, haters, circumstances) tried to steal her joy/ her sizzle(stand in your way) but what did she do? She kept smiling and singing( kept her eye on the prize which is to entertain the people, spread her ‘message’) in the midst of it all. Knowing that( having faith) security(God)  will get/help her out of this mess(any situation). She didn’t have to worry just kept on doing what she had to do. SING!

AHA Moment!! If she can do it, then why cant I? Why cant I( or you)  a blood washed believer, continue on my path smiling and believing that if I keep doing what I’m doing, the best I know how God will always make a way.

With that said, say it with me: I will keep pressing toward my mark. Pursuing my God-given vision with hard work and dedication knowing that no matter what comes my way my God’s got it.

I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.~ Philippians 3:14 . So at the end of the day, like Paul we can say” I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith~ 2 Timothy 4:7

I Declare, His Grace…

black-woman-sleeping-475x350-475x260But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me~ 1 Corinthians 15:10

                                  DECLARE WITH ME!

  • For every assignment God gives me,  through faith and obedience, I’ll be able to do things seamlessly without struggle.
  •     I’ll rest in His love and not worry about a thing.
  •     When I get to the end of my rope, I will tie a knot and hold on. Because I know that where my strength stops, His begins.
  • In pursuing my purpose, I’ll remain connected to the giver of that purpose. Help me Lord, not to sacrifice my worship at the altar of  purpose or money.

After all its only but by the grace of God that I am what I am.

His grace of sufficient for me!

Blessings,

Unoma

Mine is not good enough…

John 3:27 “To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven.”

I will be the first to admit that this ‘purpose’ talk is  possibly the most common topic in recent times. I don’t know if it has to do with the times but everyone is talking about your passion, your purpose, calling, gift whatever you want to call it…but its that thing  God has sent you to do.  Everyone has a calling but like my Pastor said, not everyone will get to fulfill it. In no way do I pretend to know all the answers, sometimes I still don’t think I have found it.  So I’m not even going to talk about how to find it.. however I think the reason we fail to fulfill our God given destiny is because we either don’t recognize our calling or that we are too busy pursuing someone else’s calling which is the  the wrong one.

Got back from church this afternoon and turned on the TV to see that Tinker Bell was on.  Yep my TV is permanently tuned to Disney or Nickelodeon, when you have a four and two year old that’s just the way it is. Ok I digress, I have watched this particular Tinker Bell movie so many times, but today I saw it differently.  You see Tinker was not happy that she was a Tinker fairy who only fixed things, her one desire was to go to the mainland which Tinker fairies where not allowed to do. The whole movie was about her trying to learn everyone else’s gift,  while despising the one she was given. In the process she caused  a lot of havoc . In the end however with all Disney Stories she learnt her lesson and the same talent she spent the whole movie trying to deny was what made everything all better.

Sometimes this same thing happens to us. We don’t value what we have. We always wants what the other person has. We compare ourselves unnecessarily to others. We only see what they want us to see so we end up putting undue stress on ourselves and anyone in our path to meet up to something that you do not understand because you are an outsider looking in. One thing I have learnt is that people are always ready to share their mountains and not their valleys.

We are all made unique in His likeness and image, given our own special gifts. Our mission on earth should be to discover it and use it in service to God. It can be in the little things, it must not always be a big event. Make it a habit to be the best you, you can be with what you have. Until you discover that what your gift is, be faithful where you are with a good heart. There in lies true happiness, and when we are happy  in the now, we open up the space to receive unexpected blessings

1 Peter 4:10 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms”

Be Blessed,

Unoma
