Flashlight Moments In the Dark Presents: Melinda Michelle

Hey y’all! Happy Valentines Day. It’s another Tuesday and today I welcome Melinda Michelle. She is known for her stories of warfare but that wasn’t what I got to know her for. No sir! I got to know her for her famous #GMMERants. Chile, they are off the chain. Here is an example…

#GMMERant: This one goes out to all the fast food restaurants that UNDER condiment! Listen…listen…listen. First of all…I’m a grown behind woman! What am I supposed to do with three ketchup packets? Really?! Like really?! It was your bright idea to have grown up fries, not mine. You could’ve had shoe strings, but you wanna be all fancy with crinkles and seasoned salt which requires EXTRA ketchup, cuz that ain’t regular salt! Then if I think, oh let me use the other sauce I got, that ain’t enough cuz you only give one of them then you want to charge for extra as if y’all ain’t high enough!!!! Listen, I know the struggle is real for everybody but the money y’all save on soda cuz of all the ice you use, you need to invest in ketchup packets!!! And for all of you that say, oh all you have to do is ask for more…LIES! When you ask for more they look at you like you have to pull out a birth certificate and a passport to prove you’re a US citizen and must pledge allegiance to their red, white and blue ketchup packet (yes Zaxby’s I’m throwing shade!) Anyways…just STINGY! I’m moving on with my life now, but all crew members expect a side eye!

Signed,

I remember drinking a soda and aimlessly scrolling Facebook when I came across a #GMMERant. I chocked on my drink. She now does them few and far in between but when she does, I know she is thinking about me because she knows I love them. 😉

I have the pleasure of interviewing her today so lets get right to it.

Unoma: Who is Melinda Michelle?

Melinda: A woman that likes to laugh, wants to please God and trying to stay sane in an insane world.

Unoma: Yea we all need to laugh. It relieves a lot of stress and you really know how to make people do it too.In 10 words or less can you create a quote that describes you and your purpose journey?

Melinda: “My yes to God is one scary thing I’d repeat.”

Unoma: Oh wow! Now that’s a lot packed into that one sentence. Saying yes to Him is so scary. Sometimes I ask, “Are you sure God?” What would you say is the driving force in your life?

copy-of-g-l-o-w-2

Melinda: Fulfilling my Kingdom Purpose and missing no soul attached to my assignment.

Unoma : Yes I love that. Contrary to the popular belief, kingdom business comes with serious trials. So, fulfilling it is not for the faint at heart. Which is why I’m passionate about championing others through the dark places. You know those places of uncertainty. My next question is, how do you balance family, faith and your passion/business?

Melinda: Right now, it’s just me, but it still has its challenges. Every season I go to God and ask Him for a plan to organize my life. I follow it and it still leaves room for me to live life which makes the hard work worth it.

Unoma :I love it. A common mistake those that are still single make it not utilizing the season they are in. Trust me I know…LOL. Okay now let’s get into the deep stuff. What was the single most devastating experience/challenge in your life and how did you overcome it?

Melinda : When my pastor/spiritual father died unexpectedly. I accepted God’s sovereign will and remembered everything he taught me then applied it. Turns out, his wisdom is immortal.

Unoma: Wow, that must have been hard. That I’m sure must have been a dark moment for you. How do you build confident expectations in your dark moments?

Melinda:Reflecting on what God had already brought me through. Remembering those times that seemed impossible and now I laugh about them. I know He’s the same God.

Unoma : That right there is really the key. I talk about that a lot in my upcoming book In The Dark Remembering keeps us anchored and it gives us hope to push through. How does your understanding of the future give you hope for the present?

Melinda: That God cannot lie and no matter what I face, His promises are real and I can trust it, if I just hold on and faint not.

Unoma: Yes girl! Even when we are faithless, He remains faithful. His promises are sure because of who He is and not anything we have done. My next question is, what does it look like practically for you to “turn to the cross” in your business/ministry?

Melinda:Run to my prayer closet, throw my tantrum so that I’m honest and vulnerable with God, then repent for complaining. Once I get rid of the emotions, then I can hear Him clearly. I apply what He speaks and it’s all good.

Unoma: I’m glad somebody else cries. I breakout the ugly tantrum cry just to clear my chest. You’d think I was a child. Speaking of, what advice would you give your younger self?

Melinda : If you obey God the first time what you think you’ll miss out on you’ll find isn’t even worth it.

Unoma: Sage words. Aww, can’t be believe, we’re almost done. So what’s next for you?

Melinda: Quite a few things, • Next book in my love series – Breach of Faith – Book II
• Next book in my war series – My Brother’s Daughter – Book 8 • Speaking engagements
• Creating personal warfare strategies for people to overcome specific obstacles in their lives (Spiritual Life Coach)

Unoma: That’s a lot and I will be praying for you.Okay so tell the readers hoe they can keep in touch.

3 Quick Ways to Navigate the Dark

It’s kinda late for me. Gosh it’s almost midnight and I haven’t slept. Before you know it it’s time to go to the day job. But I had to come in here and get this out to you. You know when the fire burns you can’t rest until you put it out. This kinda falls in line with what I wanted to talk about today.

We’re still in the beginning stages of the quarter/year and in my last blog post we talked about  setting goals and getting things in order. We also talked about how things might not always go according to plan.

That happened to me last week. I met one of my goals but life kinda happened and the others fell by the way side and really didn’t go as I intended. So I find myself staying up late today and possibly tomorrow to get a few things done. Why is it so important to me that I would sacrifice sleep?  Simple, I have a destination in mind. Full time entrepreneurship. Now do I know when that is going to happen? Yea and no. I kinda have an idea but I am fully dependent on God and really #InTheDark on when my expected end will get here.

image-2

Does that sound familiar to you. There’s something you’re expecting but you have no idea when it would happen. You’re totally #InTheDark but you remain faithful because you confidently expect God to fulfill His promise to you. Remaining faithful in your now while waiting on your next is crucial to reaching your destination. Will it be easy? Of course not but when have you seen anything good come easy? There will be sacrifices you’d have to make and hurdles you’d have to jump.

Obstacles and detours lace the road to fulfilling purpose, pursuing passion/dreams.
Don’t give up until you see what you believe come to pass. So, how do you navigate in the dark?  Here are 3 ways I remain anchored #InTheDark
1.  Recognize the obstacle. They are not always an outside force, YOU can also be the one standing in your own way.
2.  Pick a verse to give you encouragement and affirm it daily through you trial. One of my favorites is Romans 12:12 “rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,”
3. Be a blessing to others.
No matter what, push through to tap the greatness that lies within.

4th Blogoversary…Coming Full Circle

Yesterday, I was doing a lot of updates on the blog, by the way have you looked around recently? Pretty cool huh? But anyway, during my work, I checked out my comments and realized that my 4th year blogoversary passed a couple of days ago. Can you believe it?

I had to think about that for a minute and realized that since I opened up the blog in Oct 2012, it has gone through so many changes. Most important was the fact that this blog…this exact site was born after I’d abandoned my first blog for two years and everything was lost. Sounds confusing ? Okay let me walk you through and why it is so funny I’m where I am in my life right now. God sure has a sense of humor.

So, in 2009, I opened my first blog and called it W.O.M.A.N.C INC. It was the ‘Musing of a lady after God’s Heart’. An inspirational blog that provided stimulus for the soul through articles and discussions. It was supposed to be the blog of a non profit I wanted to start. I was going through a hard time, felt very hopeless so I just wrote about things I was going through that I knew a lot of others might have gone through as well. Was it a success? Sure if you ask me now. But then I wasn’t as matured as I am now. It was successful because I did have a forum where people could come and talk but was I getting a huge amount of traffic as those I was “comparing myself to?” No. Therefore to me, it was a waste of time. Not a success.

many-are-the-plans-in-a-persons-heart-but-it-is-the-lords-purpose-that-prevails-proverbs-19-21

Then I had some trials, so why am I talking about what wasn’t working for me? So I shut it down, or rather I abandoned it…stuff expired and I lost 2 years worth of writing. Also the women who came there to talk, also lost a home. Disgraceful. When we don’t walk in purpose & destiny we rob others. I wasn’t confident in my expectations from God to properly guide me. So I gave up.

3 years later, the writing bug which refused to die, started getting on my last nerve. So I opened this up. In full disclosure, it was a cop put. I knew I should’ve been writing a book but I decided that 300+ word blog post is obedience enough. PS: Partial obedience is disobedience.  So this started again as a forum to encourage and build hope. You know the period I went through? My hopelessness?  Well, giving up is something I didn’t want others to do. Around that time I was forced to write that novel(read my publishing story to know how I was forced) So I did some reorganization to make it my online platform. I changed the name, the focus to mainly talk about me as an author. But I kept that hope theme…its just in me. Even my fictional characters struggle in hope at one time or the other. Hence, as you’ve noticed, every week I talk about hope and confident expectations in Monday Musings.

7 books later, I have come full circle. How?  I am taking my passion for helping others build confident expectations through Christ, a lot of steps further. I’ll be making my announcement by the end of the year. I’m excited on what 2017 and the future holds.

On this 4th year, from the bottom of my heart I want to thank all of you for hanging with me.

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21).

I would love to hear what this blog has meant to you. Drop me a comment.

4 Ways to Kill Fear & be a STAR

You were created in God’s image so stop being a punk. Okay chill before you close out of the blog while asking yourself who I think I am, hear me out.

Most of you know my journey to publication, if you don’t read it on the home page. My number one hindrance was FEAR. Don’t be like me. I wasted so much time.

You are not a mistake. God has called us to dominate the earth but how can you dominate if you don’t use the tools He’s given you? Do yo know your gifting but are to scared to move? Let’s address that real quick. From my personal experience this was what I feared and I’m sure some would hold same for you.

• Fear of what people will say
• Fear of not being enough
• Fear of not having provision
• Fear of failure.

Let me address those fears real quick. So we can move on.

• People will talk anyway, so let them talk about you walking in purpose and destiny for God.
• You are enough, God will not ask you to do anything He hasn’t equipped you to do. Remember He qualifies the called.
• If you follow the vision, God will make the provision. I’ve experienced this time and time again.
• What’s the worst that can happen? You learn and try again. Falling down isn’t the issue, staying down is.

The gifts of God are irrevocableRomans 11-29

Now that we got that out of the way let’s address those tools that you were born with (Gifts) are acquired skills (Talents) which are all you need to dominate your part of the earth. You know slay in your passion and walk in purpose, basically BE A STAR.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace~ 1 Peter 4:10

How do you go about it? First let me warn you it wouldn’t be an easy road so you have to trust God, that through the sowing and the reaping, He wouldn’t lead you astray.

Are you ready? Click here to listen to my FREE GIFT SERIES. It includes

1. Identification of Gifts
2. Confidence in Gifts
3. Use of Gifts

And a bonus track Intro to my new talk series Anchor Talk.

Remember God gave you those gifts, what you do with them is your gift back to Him.

Blessings
