Strength In My Weakness..

girl-and-woman-praying-132 Corinthians 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me

As Christians we are called to be followers of Christ which means to walk in His ways.  His commands like, love your neighbor as yourself, if anyone slaps you turn the other cheek, forgive those who have offended you seventy times seven times and the list goes on and one are often a tall order with us Christians but hey who said the walk with Christ will be an easy one?

Being a lover of God; which I’m positive that anybody who calls themselves a Christian is.  I strive every day to live a life that He will be proud of and make me worthy of the name Christian. So in my continuous journey the study of the bible- which started off as a “duty” -became one of my nightly rituals (even if it is one chapter). In reading Genesis again with more intent this time, I began to see the story of creation in a different light, especially Eve’s role, then onto Sarah, Rebecca, Rachael, I became intrigued by these women and a host of other great ones in the bible that were blessed and highly favored by God Almighty.  These women had one thing in common; they loved the Lord but were in no way perfect. Just like me…living my imperfect life serving a perfect God.

One of definitions of the word ‘perfect’ in the dictionary is “conforming absolutely to the description of an ideal type”. I use perfect because it is an unspoken myth that because one goes to church on Sundays and bible study on Wednesday and one is a choir member or one of the ushers then you must be perfect and people hold you almost to a non-human standard. Christ didn’t lay down His life because we are without sin but because we are imperfect and His blood has promised us salvation.

Live each day committed to obeying His commands, answering to an audience of One (God). It will never be by your power or might so celebrate yourself for the small things. Strive to make today better than yesterday and tomorrow better than today.

Have a fabulous week ahead!!

Lifter of My Head..

Good Saturday Morning Sisters..any big plans for the weekend.?? Today I woke up to being thankful. In this fast paced life, we take a lot for granted but its important to take a moment and pause. Selah! When we don’t think He is answering our prayers at the time we should, lets pause and think about what he has done in the past.

David says in Psalm 3:3-4 ” But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.

There is a song that says ” when I think of the goodness of Jesus and all He has done for me…my very soul shout hallelujah, thank you Lord for blessing me.”

During the storm remember He is the God of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

You have the ball..

Have you ever wondered why it is that when things are going great, that’s when the devil rears his ugly head…and not in the form you will expect. I know its cliché to say that “God will never give you anything more than you can handle”…I get that but why is it that when it starts to rain, it pours and the more favored you are the heavier the rain is in your neck of the woods. It would sure be a good thing if when you are being tried that the trial s come one at a time, so you can deal with one the the other( sure would be nice wouldn’t it) . I have come to figure that with living it is a constant problem solving game. It just seems that with Christians the stakes in the game is higher. Show me a person who had no problem or care in the world and I will show you a corpse.

Take a look at the lives of the noble people in the bible that found favor with God, they always seemed to be in one situation or the other. Why is the devil always trying to attack people of God? Job, the faithful servant of God was just minding his business but not being satisfied Satan asked for permission to tempt him thinking that he would turn on God. He even had the nerve to tempt Christ? Just imagine the Christ!!  As faithful followers (not just church goers, there is a huge difference) we are bound to be tempted with things unimaginable that we begin to ask why? But then remember that Jesus instructed us to pick up our cross and follow him. Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” If our aim is to be lack luster Christians, with no real passion or desire to impact people with godly principles, then your sailing would be ‘eazy breezy’. However if in whatever you are doing, you do it as unto the Lord as in Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”. Get ready, you will be attacked.

I grew up with four brothers, so I know my sports very well. Ironically I am married to a man who doesn’t really care about it….lol. When I was single I thought ok since I can tolerate and actually follow sports, when I get married we won’t fight over the remote much. That’s life, but anyways I digress, where I was going to with this is that in ANY sport, the only person that is being tackled is the one with the BALL.  You see all the other players on the team just running, but the opposition is only after the player that has the ball, there are not the least bit interested in those that don’t.  When we are living in purpose making an impact on people, serving God in spirit and in truth that is exactly who we are: the player with the BALL.  Trails and temptations will come to us from every angle, sickness, job loss, foreclosure, extended family issues, marriage attacks the list goes on and on 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to us all. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure.” Let’s dissect this, nothing absolutely nothing is happening or has happened to you that someone else isn’t going through, so when we cry why me? Just know that it’s not just you. But your God is faithful , so worthy of  our trust that He will not let us be tempted beyond our limits HOWEVER, when we are tempted( which we will be) He will always, always, always, provide a way for us to endure those temptations. Psalm 34:19 tells us that “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all”.

You are being attacked to distract you from your goal and why not? After all you have the BALL……

Be Blessed

From Start to Finish..

It was on of those 100+ degree days that plagued us this summer, the kids and I were driving back in 5 o’clock traffic when suddenly we where in the turning lane. The light was green for those going straight ahead but since there was oncoming traffic on the opposite side of the road I had to sit tight till it cleared then I would be able to turn. At least that’s what I was taught in driving school:-), however my four year old daughter thought differently.. “mummy the light is green so it time to go”  she said. “Not yet baby” I replied” …..we have to wait till the oncoming traffic clears”. ” Mummy I don’t think that right, my teacher said green is for go”. She then procedded to tell me if my lane was not going at the green light I should move into the other lane that was. That would have totally out of my way ofcourse

Eventually I was able to turn and we got home just in the nick of time for her favorite cartoon to start. Apparently she knew what she wanted and what time we had to be home so she could get it, it didn’t matter that it wasn’t our time to turn YET.  All she knew was that she needed something and didn’t appreciate the fact that there was wisdom in her mummy not turning just to make sure she got what she wanted. Kids!!
When it comes to getting what we want in a way we all are just like my four year old. We are often impatient and in this fast paced world we need the results now and fast.

Kinda reminds me of the story of the prodigal son. In Luke 15, we are told of a man with two sons and the differences between both of them in terms of patience and diligently working in the father vineyard. We all know the story, the younger son so impatient and wanting what was his now, asked the his father give his own “share immediately. We all know how at thee end of the day he ended up squandering everything and returned home with his tail between his legs asking for forgiveness. Also brings to mind Martha’scomment to Jesus when he  finally arrived two days after being told of Lazarus illness. In Luke 11:21 she says “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.  But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask

There are times in life when we think our prayers are not answered on time, we have our own course planned out that we neglect to commit everything to the Lord so that He will make our way smooth(Proverbs 3vs 5-6). For those of us who do proclaim to  “commit” our ways, the challenge lies in our inability to trust in His process. Trust that our God, the all knowing Father knows exactly what we need even before we come to him in prayer. The fact that we haven’t gotten it YET might mean that we aren’t ready to receive it. Just like the prodigal son, his father knew he wasn’t ready for his share of the “inheritance” when he demanded it, but because we have free will God will sometimes give us want we want when we are not ready to redirect us back to where He needs us to be.Also in the case of Martha, Jesus already knew that He was going to perform a miracle to the glory of God the Almighty. So He deliberately delayed in making the journey to go and see Lazarus when he was sick.

In Isaiah 55 vs 8-9 God tells us “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. He has seen the beginning to the end of our lives, he knows what we are thinking even before we do, He might not work on our own timing but he is always ON TIME! All we need to do is trust that even when we dont see, He is working behind the scenes.
