Wednesday Author Spotlight ~ Michelle Lindo-Rice

Hi Folks!

It’s a new year! Any resolutions? Goals? Challenges? Well I have a reading challenge going on over at Goodreads. Speaking of which our Wednesday Author Spotlight is back for the new year. And our first author is Michelle Lindo-Rice. Her book Walk A Straight Line is now available.

Now before we get into that book let me talk about her debut novel Sing A New Song. This was the last book I read in 2013 and it was in one word…GREAT. See my review on Amazon here. Go get it. You will not regret it.

Ok back to the reason Michelle is visiting us today, her new book; Walk A Straight Line

Two friends. Two brothers. Two weddings. Too many secrets.
Colleen MacGregor rededicated her life to God when she met and married Terence Hayworth. However, her happily-ever-after will have to wait, because she has some serious dragons to slay to sustain her marriage and keep her friendship with Gina Price intact. After fifteen years of friendship, Colleen must now draw the line and stop telling Gina everything.
What did God do to her friend? Gina finds it hard to deal with Colleen’s newfound faith. She thinks Colleen has become self-righteous, subjecting Gina to her holy tirades whenever the mood strikes. When Gina begins dating one brother, while simultaneously falling in love with another, boy, does she get an earful! Gina, however, is way too busy trying to sort her way through her own murky feelings to worry about her soul. Her heart wants what it wants.

Lucky By Yejide Kilanko

During the year,I have featured numerous authors and aspiring authors. Yejide Kilanko is a sister writer of mine and a favorite. Her feature on Wednesday Author Spotlight can be found here. Enjoy another flash fiction piece from her…it had me cracking up. Remember my post What’s In A Name ?…..this made me remember it.

Ps: This will be my last feature of the year but stayed tuned for the new year.

I have been told several times I came out of my mother’s womb talking, so brevity in speech or the written word, has always been a challenge of mine.

Sometime during this year, I decided to start writing flash stories. It has been so much fun writing stories where every word has to count.

Please find below my latest flash story titled Lucky. Coming from an African culture where children, are named with the hope it would impact their destinies, it was hard not to share Lucky’s pain.

Whether you’re a reader or writer, I hope you’ll decide to try something new in 2014. It just might open the door to a new adventure.

The Holidays Are Heating Up….

I love this time of the year.  First the selfless sacrifice that Jesus Christ made…subjecting himself to his own creation so we might have a chance at salvation. Oh what joy.!!

I also love spending time with family and friends…its also my birthday month (yeah I’m a Christmas Eve baby) so its all good for me.

And lastly, nothing makes the holidays more complete like a good holiday read. Besides mine The Christmas Ultimatum , The Christmas UltimatumI have some books to share with you that I think you might wanna try…In fact I know you will enjoy. Books make wonderful gifts…*hint, hint*

Cover - Anya's Wish1. Even with love in the air, Anya has some Scrooge-like moments that put a damper on the holidays…

One man. One woman. One wish.

After five years in a dead-end relationship, the last thing Anya needs is a man to upset her ordered existence. A quiet, Christmas season with family is all that’s on her agenda, until her job puts her in contact with Christophe Mondesir, who refuses to play by her rules.

Caught between an interfering ex, a secret that gives her anxious moments, and a man with the power to make her forget promises to herself, Anya faces more complications than she can handle.

If her ex would stay gone, she might take a chance on romance with the man determined to spin her world off its axis. But the obstacles in her way leave Anya stuck in a groove with work as the main diversion from her problems.

Only Christopher’s resolve to win Anya’s love makes the difference between staying in a rut and pursuing her dreams.

Anya’s Wish is the prequel to Chasing Anya.

Looking herself over in the full length mirror, Renee Thomas liked what she saw. She’d often been compared to  Angela Bassett. When Renee first began hearing the comparison she felt compelled to remind people that Angela Bassett was in her fifties and old enough to be her mother. But then Renee realized just how ageless Angela Bassett seemed to be. She might be in her fifties, but the woman could pass for a thirty-something. So, whenever she heard the compliment these days, Renee simply smiled and accepted it.

Outer beauty had never been a problem for Renee. But her inner beauty that had taken a beaten because of her dealings with Marlin Jones. He had constantly made her feel as if she couldn’t do anything without him. The night he beat her and made her loose their child had caused her self-esteem to sink even lower.

Her father and step-mother had been praying for her and after months of doubting herself, Renee was finally ready to re-enter the workforce. Wearing a navy blue suit, she grabbed her purse and headed out of the house. She’d messed up her life by making so many wrong choices in the past, but this was a new day for her, a new beginning.

“Looking good there, Ms. Thomas,” Carmella Marshall-Thomas said as Renee entered the kitchen.

“You’re looking pretty good yourself, Mrs. Thomas.”

Carmella handed her a glass of orange juice and a bagel with vegetable cream cheese. “I figured you’d want something light to get you going.”

“You’re always so thoughtful.” Renee kissed Carmella’s cheek. “I haven’t always been as thoughtful where you’re concerned, but you’re good people. I still miss my mom. But I am so thankful that my father married you.”

“You’re always going to miss your mom, Renee. I still miss mine. But you were so young when you’re mom died… I just wish you could’ve had more time with her.”
