The Season: Its Essence & Me Featuring Vivian Kay

Hi there! I hope you enjoyed my quest last week? Today I’m featuring Vivian Kay.

Unoma & Friends Presents (2)
One of my earliest memories of Christmas is standing on the stage at primary school as I sang “Jingle Bells” at the top of my voice. It didn’t matter that I had never seen snow nor dashed through it.
I remember visits to the tailor for new dresses, the odour of singed hair after contact with a stove-top hot comb, laughter with family, good homemade food. I miss those carefree days.
As I pondered on what this season means to the adult me, the scripture below, John 3:16, came to my mind. It was the first time I had thought of Christmas within its context.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Therefore, for God so loved me and you that he sent us Jesus. We have that kind of value. I couldn’t help smiling as I typed those words.
I know the holiday period can be a hard time for many of us. There are lean pockets and cupboards to contend with, missing faces around the table, absent joy in broken hearts. It’s truly hard to navigate this journey of life without His Joy.
My prayer, is that as we all go through a period congested with activities, we take time to remember the One who loved us so much He gave His all. His name is Emmanuel, “God is with us.” He will be with you in whatever season you are. Trust me on that.
From my family to yours, have a very Merry Christmas.

  1. The holidays can be a tough time of year for many people, especially those that have recently lost a loved one. I’m in that boat this year as my family mourns my aunt’s home going. But I’ve made up my mind that I’m just going to cherish the moments I have with the people I love that much more this year. God is still good and I still have joy!

    1. I don’t get to do that often because my parents live so far away but I was grateful when they stayed for Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2013

  2. I Agree. My earliest memories of Christmas was going to midnight mass, with my family.Being in the school Christmas plays.Enjoying spending time with love ones.Merry Christmas

    1. Isn’t amazing how those those early memories stay with us? We have a Christmas Eve candle light service at my church. Love it. Merry Christmas 🙂

  3. Great reminder of the reason for the season. I don’t know how I would ever fair in this life without standing firm on Jesus as my solid rock! Merry Christmas!
