Are Your Roots Planted Deep?

colossians2_7-rootsSo I hung out in Colossians this week. I know I’ve at one time read the book before, but this time its different. I read and re read chapter 2 until I had chewed and digested the message that is being passed. Cos it is only through understanding the word of God that we are able to speak life, His truth and promise into our situations that we may overcome. So until I fully get the message, I stay put in that chapter.

Any who, so I’m reading chapter 2 and I’m thoroughly blessed by Paul’s message to the people. And y’all know me, if something blesses me I’ll share..

And now just as you trusted Christ to save you, trust him, too, for each day’s problems; live in vital union with him.  Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him. See that you go on growing in the Lord, and become strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with joy and thanksgiving for all he has done.  Don’t let others spoil your faith and joy with their philosophies, their wrong and shallow answers built on men’s thoughts and ideas, instead of on what Christ has said. For in Christ there is all of God in a human body;  so you have everything when you have Christ, and you are filled with God through your union with Christ. He is the highest Ruler, with authority over every other power.(Colossians 2 vs 6-9 Living Bible)

This really hit me hard. Why you ask?  You see,  there comes a time in our process, ( pursuing our goals, destinies whatever you may want to call it) that we will hit our period of wilderness. Wondering if we are on the right road? Things are not going according to plan? Business is not coming along as it should… you know the stuff just isn’t working. Here Paul reminds us that if we continue to live in Christ, with faith and gratitude we should be able to withstand false prophets. For me that translates  to  people that will come in and see the desperation of your situation and try to make you falter from your goals. Don’t!! Keep your eye on the prize because those who know who they are in Christ shouldn’t  easily moved. As Yolanda Adams would say…”This too shall pass”.

I’m reminded of when my production company KevStel Group was faced with a dilemma. We didn’t have the funds needs to carry out a project that we knew God had placed on our heart. Out of the blue came this individual wanting to partner, now you know I was jumping up and down thinking it was nothing but God hearing our prayer. Side note: always pray for a discerning spirit in any alliances you want to form especially as it pertains to your vision. God gave the vision to you and no one else!

Ok I digress.. right before it was time to sign the contract, this person wanted to start changing the vision of the project to appeal to a more “commercial audience.” But God had placed on our heart a different kind of project altogether, one that would glorify Him and not the kind they were proposing. So we cut the deal. Remembering what Abraham told the King of Sodom “ that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’” (Genesis 12:23 Living Bible)

For us, that was the wilderness, but we were not willing to compromise on integrity because we know that if He had placed the vision He will provide the provision.

So how do you survive the rough patches? Put on an attitude of  faith, perseverance and gratitude every day. In Christ you have all you need.
