My Musings

Mine is not good enough…

John 3:27 “To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven.”

I will be the first to admit that this ‘purpose’ talk is  possibly the most common topic in recent times. I don’t know if it has to do with the times but everyone is talking about your passion, your purpose, calling, gift whatever you want to call it…but its that thing  God has sent you to do.  Everyone has a calling but like my Pastor said, not everyone will get to fulfill it. In no way do I pretend to know all the answers, sometimes I still don’t think I have found it.  So I’m not even going to talk about how to find it.. however I think the reason we fail to fulfill our God given destiny is because we either don’t recognize our calling or that we are too busy pursuing someone else’s calling which is the  the wrong one.

Got back from church this afternoon and turned on the TV to see that Tinker Bell was on.  Yep my TV is permanently tuned to Disney or Nickelodeon, when you have a four and two year old that’s just the way it is. Ok I digress, I have watched this particular Tinker Bell movie so many times, but today I saw it differently.  You see Tinker was not happy that she was a Tinker fairy who only fixed things, her one desire was to go to the mainland which Tinker fairies where not allowed to do. The whole movie was about her trying to learn everyone else’s gift,  while despising the one she was given. In the process she caused  a lot of havoc . In the end however with all Disney Stories she learnt her lesson and the same talent she spent the whole movie trying to deny was what made everything all better.

Sometimes this same thing happens to us. We don’t value what we have. We always wants what the other person has. We compare ourselves unnecessarily to others. We only see what they want us to see so we end up putting undue stress on ourselves and anyone in our path to meet up to something that you do not understand because you are an outsider looking in. One thing I have learnt is that people are always ready to share their mountains and not their valleys.

We are all made unique in His likeness and image, given our own special gifts. Our mission on earth should be to discover it and use it in service to God. It can be in the little things, it must not always be a big event. Make it a habit to be the best you, you can be with what you have. Until you discover that what your gift is, be faithful where you are with a good heart. There in lies true happiness, and when we are happy  in the now, we open up the space to receive unexpected blessings

1 Peter 4:10 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms”

Be Blessed,

Unoma
